Arlene Miller’s books are among the very few grammar books worth reading. They are readable, applicable, and immediately useful. I am a poet, an actor, and an intuitively correct (usually) grammar user. Now I teach Spanish to adults so I use the differences and similarities between English and Spanish in my teaching. None of the many books I researched were very useful . . . until I found Arlene’s books!

Copyediting:
“Arlene Miller has edited two books for me and I will hire her when I write my third. Not only is she talented but she’s fun to work with. She’s not the type of editor who shakes a finger at you and says, “Tsk, tsk. You should know better.” Instead, she makes the corrections in her own quiet way and makes me feel as though I had turned in a perfectly written manuscript. But the real reason why I’ve hired Arlene in the past and will hire her again is because she is the authority on grammar. She’s the author of six worthy grammar books and she teaches grammar for a living. Arlene has a Bachelor’s Degree, a Master’s Degree and a teaching credential and is The Grammar Diva. Why would you hire someone else?” – Frances Caballo, Author of Social Media Just for Writers
“Arlene is a terrific editor: quick, thorough, time efficient and accurate. You won’t find one better!” – Jeannie Thomas, Author of The Caregiver’s Winding Road
“I share the same frustration in editing my own work as many other writers. No matter how many times I reread the words, there are grammatical errors left unnoticed. The day I turned my work over to Arlene Miller for editing was the day my frustrations ended. She has a tightly woven net that catches all the typos, grammatical errors and misplaced punctuation marks. Since then, I’ve not experienced having pieces I’ve submitted for publication returned to me for these kinds of errors. I can highly recommend her as an astute editor.”- Kent Sorenson, author and photographer
The Best Little Grammar Book Ever!
“In preparation for a remedial community college English class I taught, I purchased 6 other grammar books to compare against one another (e.g., The Idiots Guide, Dummies, CliffNotes, etc). Hands down, The Best Little Grammar Book Ever! is the BEST. I even brought the other books to my class to show the students and they all voted for Ms. Miller’s. Her examples are clearly presented, examples precise, and formatting accessible. She includes quizzes at the beginning of every chapter and the answers are on the next page. The students are able to see where they need help before getting stated. She does go a little overboard with her use of exclamation points, but she also lets the readers know this. It does reflect her passion for grammar. My students and I thank her for making the learning process less painful.” – Babs Beach
“A user-friendly, practical and immensely helpful book on grammar and usage. This volume should have a place on every writer’s shelf. Highly-recommended.” Sheldon Siegel. New York Times Best Selling Author of Judgment Day.

I love your test questions… great fun. Actually, for someone who got C’s and D’s in English, I am doing fairly well on your quizzes. My wife loves it also! Best wishes and good luck with your book! It is a winner!” – Jim Horan, President, The One Page Business Plan Company
“I find it a truly delightful book. Grammar study can be good fun, and your book shows us how that’s done. It’s remarkably clear in structure and layout, and you provide much good humor in your presentation as well. It’s comprehensive in scope, yet concise and to the point and lots of fun.” Dr. John Walker, St. Vincent’s High School Principal

The Great Grammar Cheat Sheet
“Arlene’s book is superb.” – Robert Gilvey, author
“I edit manuscripts every day, and I still found this book to be incredibly helpful. Arlene Miller homes in on 50 of the most thorny grammar issues in the English language and explains them clearly and succinctly. By the way, who says grammar has to be boring? Miller uses humor and lively examples to keep the reader engaged. She also acknowledges the differences between American English and UK English, and she clearly states whether she’s citing a hard-and-fast grammar rule or just a personal preference. This is one grammar book I’ll be keeping within easy reach when I edit and write!”- Debra Stang
The Best Grammar Workbook Ever!
” There’s much to admire in this comprehensive yet relatively straightforward book. I went straight to a terminology question I’d been thinking about (the difference between relative and demonstrative pronouns) and came away with a clear understanding of this difference. On pages 56-57, I think the writer does a good job explaining the “his or her” situation. It would take a very motivated student to go through this text without a teacher or tutor, but I feel that someone motivated enough to do so would come away with a very good understanding of grammar, punctuation, and usage. I think the examples of various rules are easy to understand and well chosen.” Judge, 25th Annual Writer’s Digest Awards
“This saves so much time! Why reinvent the wheel? Buy this!” Traci Wilson, teacher
“I will be using this in the Spring semester of my class. I can’t wait.” Melissa S., teacher
“Far from some boring subject only ruler-wielding schoolmarms care about, grammar is the foundation of anything you write, and by extension, one’s professional reputation. This exhaustive reference leaves no stone unturned, while its lesson/exercise format (nearly 100 exercises!) effectively reinforces a reader’s understanding. It belongs on the bookshelf of anyone who has to write anything, any time. Highly recommended.” – Peter Bowerman, multiple-award-winning author of The Well-Fed Writer and The Well-Fed Self-Publisher
“Arlene Miller’s The Best Grammar Workbook Ever! is the most comprehensive and instructive guide to grammar that I’ve read in a long while. With authority and humor, Miller covers every grammatical concept you’ll need to master your writing.” – Jeff Deck, Co-author of The Great Typo Hunt: Two Friends Changing the World, One Correction at a Time
“Proud to say Arlene not only taught me about grammar rules I wasn’t sure about, but she set me straight on things I’d been doing wrong for years and didn’t know it.” – Sharon Hamilton, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author
Fifty Shades of Grammar/Blog Posts
“Very clever. Ms. Miller had a cute idea and ran with it! I purchased this book for my niece, who is a new teacher right out of college (mostly English for middle school) and thought she might enjoy it. I started looking through the copy I purchased for her and flipped to a page where the author had answered a question I’ve been trying to figure out for months (okay…question marks and exclamation marks go inside or outside quote within a sentence?). I have a publishing business, and this is just the kind of thing I need to know in a very concise way with a LOT of humor thrown in for good measure. It beats that old “Strunk and White” and “Chicago Style” any day for me now. This is my new ‘go to.'” Charylu Roberts, music book publisher
“Fifty Shades” is a compilation of selected posts from Miller’s blog, “The Grammar Diva Blog.”
As the owner of four of Miller’s books on how to use the English language, I recommend her work without hesitation. Each of her books is less like a lecture and more like sharing a cup of coffee with her for a friendly conversation. She doesn’t write “down” to the reader but, instead, elevates those who want to learn.” – Sheri Graves, author of Deep DooDoo, memoir-writing instructor
“I just love your little week grammar lessons! easy to digest, as they are in nice bite-sized pieces ” – Veronica Valero, the Computer Tutor
“Thank you, Arlene! I love these blogs. I am trying very hard to brush up on my grammar, and these are so helpful.” Lizzie L.

. . . and finally . . .
“Arlene Miller is not only an expert at grammar but she’s a terriffic writer. Her books are well presented and fun – full of information that all writers need. Arlene served as 2012 Editor for Redwood Writer’s (the largest branch of the esteemed California Writers Club) anthology which required organization, people skills, and adherence to a strict timetable. She delivered a beautiful book. It has been my pleasure to serve with Arlene as board member and watch her skills play out. She has a great sense of humor, knows how to get a job done and has a special way with people. I highly recommend Arlene Miller.” – Linda Loveland Reid, Art Historian, Author, Painter, Theater Director, Business Owner, former President of Redwood Writers
