What if Elvis had sung about brown suede shoes instead of Blue Suede Shoes? And what if Bobby Vinton’s girl wore green velvet instead of Blue Velvet? Think about all the songs with a color in the title. Doesn’t it seem as if “blue” is the most popular color to sing about?
I don’t have statistics (yet), but I would say blue is likely the most common color to find in a song title. Why?
- Blue is a popular favorite color.
- Blue is easy to rhyme. Much easier than, say, orange.
- Blue(s) is even a music genre, so lots of songs will have blues in the title.
- Blue has a popular meaning besides being a color, and heartbreak is a common theme in many songs.
Okay. According to Chat GPT, knower of all things, there are over 10 million published songs – and of course the number changes by the minute. And there are many thousands of songs – possibly over 100,000, with the word blue or blues in the title.
I am not going to look up anything yet, I am going to attempt to list songs with colors. Please add to the list in your comments. Keep in mind that most of my songs will be from the 60s or so, and you might not know them. Oh, apparently red and gold are also common.
